The Valiant is a tune written by Simon Ritchie - singer, musician and step-dancer extraordinaire. Simon says that he wrote it in response to meeting and talking at length in the Low House (the King’s Head, Laxfield, Suffolk) to a sailor who had a photograph of the last ship on
which he sailed, called the Valiant. The tune is a session favourite here in Cambridge and deserves to be even more widely known. It fits beautifully with Allexander - a tune written down by William Clarke of Feltwell on page 76 of his manuscript in approximately 1856. Allexander is a tricky jig which starts off deceptively simply, explodes into action in the second section and settles down into a great finger precision exercise in the final section. We love it!

Because I couldn't decide what my favourite track was. It's a beautiful album and every track could be my favourite. However, I am a soppy git so I chose stowaway. Thank you Jon and keep up the good work. amediamonkey
